To access your Web Server Directory!
OnePostal is using a Microsoft Windows NT Web Server right now, and
in order to provide easy access we are providing access using the Microsoft
Windows Client. This means that you can simply dial into the Internet
and "map a drive" to our machine and directly read and write files ...
just like a local drive.
To do this, you must:
-
Perform some one-time set-up on your Windows95 machine
-
Have the Microsoft Windows Client installed
-
Add our server to your local LMHOSTS. file
-
Map a drive to our server
One-time set-up of your machine
1. Locate your Windows LMHOSTS. file. It is usually located in
your \Windows directory. If you have never used this before, there
is a "sample" file (called LMHOSTS.SAM) that will be located in this directory.
If you can only find the LMHOSTS.SAM file, then make a copy in the same
directory called LMHOSTS.
2. You will need to edit the LMHOSTS. file, and add the following entry
at the end of the file:
This entry tells your Windows machine the address and actual name of our
Web Server.
Mapping a drive
When you are ready to edit your pages, you will need to dial-in to your
Internet Service Provider and make sure that you can access your
web page using your browser.
-
To Map a Drive, you need to run Windows Explorer, and click the toolbar
button to "map a drive" (which looks like a disk drive with a small 'flash'
at the upper corner)
-
You will be prompted for a path. Use the path of "\\beavis\{domain
name}"
-
(for example to edit the pages for OnePostal, you would use "\\beavis\onepostal".
-
Your user name that you logged in to Windows95 must be the same as your
e-mail name.
-
Your password is the one provided by our staff.
-
If you click OK the dialog should disappear and you should now have a drive
mapped to our server.
-
You can now just edit and copy files, using your browser to test to see
that they appear properly.
